For Romanians in Italy, the end of September brings an extra reason to celebrate: U-Banca Transilvania Cluj-Napoca, the Romanian champion and one of the top basketball teams in Eastern Europe, returns to Italy for a new BKT EuroCup season.
On September 30, 2026, at 9:00 PM (local time), U-BT will play in Rome against Maxima Roma, in a match promising excitement and thrills, hosted at PalaEUR, one of the city's most renowned sports arenas. 📅
For U-BT, the 2026-2027 season is a special one. The Cluj team will travel to Italy twice, playing matches in both Rome and Venice as part of Group B in the BKT EuroCup. The group also includes Turk Telekom Ankara, La Laguna Tenerife, Umana Reyer Venezia, Siauliai Basketball, London Lions, and Skyliners Frankfurt.
A success story that carries Romania's name across Europe
In recent years, U-BT has established an important place on the European basketball map. The team has won the last eight Romanian championship titles, holds seven Romanian Cups and five Supercups, and has become a regular presence in European competitions.
The club reached the quarterfinals of the FIBA Basketball Champions League in the 2021-2022 season and has made it to the BKT EuroCup quarterfinals in the last three seasons. Additionally, U-BT is the only Romanian team in history to compete in the Adriatic League (ABA League), where it was a quarterfinalist last season.

For the 2026-2027 season, U-BT has assembled one of the most interesting rosters in recent years. The club made 11 transfers this summer, bringing in players with experience in the NBA, national teams, and some of Europe's strongest leagues.
Leading the team is still Mihai Silvășan, in his 11th season as the club’s head coach. Under his guidance, U-BT has become a benchmark in Romanian basketball and a respected name on the European stage.
