In a (good) relationship with the bank: Updating personal data
What do you do first when you change your phone number? You notify close people, so you can keep in touch. What do you do, for example, when you buy a new house and change your address? You celebrate 😊, but something else is also necessary because some changes in life need to be reported to the bank, such as a new address, a new identity card or in electronic format, a new email or a new job.

Why is it necessary to have your personal data updated at the bank?
Data updates are made periodically by all banks because it is a legal requirement both in Romania and in Europe. Authorities and central banks around the world place great importance on the idea of periodic updates of client data precisely because the financial system is a critical infrastructure through which all financial flows circulate. It is thus vital that all personal information used by banks is updated and accurate.
That is how you can have a good relationship with the bank, through access to products and services, banking operations, access to information;
- You avoid information for and about yourself from reaching other persons, such as your old phone number, which now belongs to another person;
- This is a precautionary measure regarding transactions through BT;
- We respect the legislation together (Law No. 129/2019 and Regulation of the National Bank of Romania No. 2/2019), but also what concerns GDPR (EU Regulation 679/2016 - General Data Protection Regulation).
What data do we check?
- the data of identification - name, date of birth, personal numeric code, for individuals, and unique registration code, headquarters, in the case of a company.
- the data of contact: address, e-mail, phone.
- information may specific: general source of funds/income, employer, occupation, legal representatives, beneficial owners of the legal entity, or whether the account holder is or is not a politically exposed person.
Why do we want to know the source of the money that passes through accounts?
Having access to this information, we can protect you better. We can more easily realize when something is wrong by checking transactions that have a legitimate source and those that do not match the declared information. For example, when very large amounts appear in a client's account, for which there are no supporting documents or logical explanations, we will request additional information to decide how to process the respective transaction and whether it complies with legal provisions.
Another very simple and frequently encountered example is when a client declares that they are employed, which means that the source of their funds is mainly the salary received from the employer mentioned at account opening, while in reality all receipts in the account come from sale-purchase transactions, in which case we will contact the client to verify and document the situation.
Human banking, but the law is law
So we rely on you. Think of it as your way of contributing to a healthy financial system.
Let's do this together!
